We are completely privately held and operated. We have no affiliation whatsoever with any other company.

Are you a member of any professional trade associations? If so, who?

The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors is a group that we belong to. They have a rigid code of behaviour that we must follow.

How long have you been established as a business?

We were established in 1965.

How many branches do you have?

Only one branch exists here. This, in our opinion, enables us to concentrate on the standard of the care, attention, and service offered.

Are your staff full time employees?

Our staff consist of both full-time and part-time staff.

Do you own your own vehicles?

Yes.

What happens if my loved one dies outside of normal business hours?

365 days a year, 24 hours a day, our team is on call to assist you.

Where will my loved one be kept leading up to the funeral?

We will take care of your loved one right here on our property, where we offer Chapels of Rest and a contemporary, fully functional mortuary.

Do you offer embalming?

Our embalmer is a licenced member of the British Institute of Embalmers. While we don’t require embalming, it is typically advised if you want to see your loved one.

Am I able to visit my loved one?

Yes, by appointment, you are welcome to pay a visit to your loved one in our Chapel of Rest.

Can my loved one be dressed in their own clothing if we wish?

Yes. Please give us a complete set of clothes, including underwear. If you would like, we can additionally dress your loved one in a satin robe that we can provide.

Are you able to arrange a funeral at my home or do we have to meet in your office?

Yes, however it would probably be more beneficial for you to come see us here at Whiston & Britland, where you can get a greater idea of our operations, business, and staff.

Is it possible for ladies to be dressed and prepared by ladies and men by men?

Yes, we will do everything in our power to respect your requests in this regard.

Are you able to provide an itemised estimate of funeral expenses before I appoint you?

Yes, we will be able to give you an itemised estimate, albeit confirmation may be needed for certain of the disbursements (third party costs).

Do we have to have a traditional funeral service?

No, we strive to be as adaptable as possible in what we provide. We will do our best to fulfil your demands, and we are open to any irrational or outlandish ones.

Do we have to have a service at all?

No, you don’t have to. We provide a straightforward, affordable solution for anyone who would prefer to arrange for a loved one to be cremated without having any kind of funeral service.

Do we have to use your services for all aspects of the funeral?

No you don’t. We would be pleased to comply with your requests, such as using your own vehicle or providing your own casket.

Are you able to accommodate people of all faiths?

Yes, we can set up non-religious services as well as services for persons of any faith. We collaborate with a number of local Humanist Celebrants and Celebrants qualified to officiate at nonreligious ceremonies.

Is it possible for the funeral to start from my home?

Yes, our bespoke funerals are made specifically to your specifications.

Do you provide pall bearers?

Although we do offer pall bearers, if you prefer that family or friends carry the coffin instead, we will offer the support and advice required to make this possible.

Do we have to use your services for all aspects of the funeral?

No you don’t. We would be pleased to comply with your requests, such as using your own vehicle or providing your own casket.
